Missy's last day | Missy the Beagle Home | After she's gone

The end

While we waited for my sister Gloria, Missy lay on the cool ceramic tile in the hallway at Judi's house. Kyle lay on the floor next to her and slowly scratched the back of her neck. Just before Gloria arrived, Scooter came by with three pepperonis from a pizza that he had ordered earlier in the day. Even though Missy wouldn't eat cheese, she wolfed down those pepperonis!!! I was very pleased.

Last pictureWhen Gloria arrived, we took Missy out on Judi's back patio, and I sat holding her in my lap. I held her head in my hand and scratched her behind the ears, while Gloria found a vein. I kept whispering "I love you" into her ears, and Judi scratched her back. Missy made soft snuffling noises, like she did when she was happy, and I do believe she was very happy and content at that moment. Then she laid her head down on my arm and took a deep breath and went to sleep. My sister was listening with her stethoscope, and she whispered, "She's gone," and that was it.

The pictures below are of Missy's final resting place, a planter in Judi's back yard where Missy liked to hunt for lizards and sniff the smells.
