This is a diary, in text and pictures, of a two-week trip to the Carribean islands of St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. The 11th to the 18th were in St. Maarten, and the 18th to the 27th in Puerto Rico. I know that's more than two weeks; if you read the diary, you'll find out why.

A diary is a series of entries in date order, but you have some choices in the way you want to view this one. First, you can look at any day's entry by picking it out of the Date drop-down (left), or by clicking on it in the calendar. Or you can look at the entire diary -- all the daily entries -- at once, by choosing "All" from the drop down, or clicking the "All" link. Or you can view only those paragraphs in the diary that pertain to a specific topic -- Driving in St. Maarten, for example. Topic pages will typically be made up of pieces from a number of diary entries. To see only the information for a topic, pick it from the Topic drop-down (left, below).

Finally, once you've chosen the information you're interested in -- a daily entry, all daily entries, or a topic -- you can decide whether you want to see the text with some pictures, only the text (no pictures), or only the gallery of pictures (no text). If you chose the image gallery, you will see more pictures than if you chose text and pictures -- sometimes way more pictures; There are some pictures that only show up when the gallery option is chosen.

Whatever you do, you can look at the top of each page for options to do something else -- go to the next day, or the previous, for example, or see the image gallery for that selection. Or click "Album Home" to come back here to start over.

I welcome all comments, positive, negative, or constructive. But especially constructive. You can drop me a message at: gss at att dot net.

Technical Information

The diary information that is the basis for this site is stored in a single XML file with no duplication or redundancy. The XML information includes things like page headers and navigation aids. A PHP script extracts the pieces needed, whether daily entries or topics, text or pictures, and assembles them into an HTML document for display. So the same paragraph or image can become part of a daily entry, an "all days" log, and one or more topics. If you're interested in the XML markup, the PHP script, or any other technical crap, you can drop me a message at: beaglewriter at att dot net.
