This morning we got up and put on our bathing suits and walked to the southern end of Dawn Beach. This meant scrambling over the pile of rocks that divides the northern and southern parts, but it was a very relaxing stroll. We saw hardly anyone at the southern end, during our stay. The only thing to disturb the serenity is the construction on the hillside just off the end of the beach.
After that we went to Philipsburg for last-minute shopping.
Shopping finished (naturally we popped into a bunch more jewelry stores, and a lot of the salespeople recognized us from Monday -- such is the price of shopping with Judi), we returned to the resort to pack for the journey home. :(
And, you know, that song Red, Red Wine is now stuck in my head, too.
Lunch
We had lunch at the Harbor House Beach Hotel again. I just like the atmosphere. We started off with an appetizer of Gouda cheese. I know it sounds simple -- it was just a plate of cheese with green olives and mustard for dipping. But it was scrumptious, especially when we let the cheese come to room temperature, and chewed it slowly and thoroughly. And the mustard dip was a unique twist.
For the main course, Judi had the Hawaiian chicken, but was disappointed to find that it came coated with the same peanut sauce as her pork kabobs had the time before. Who would put peanut sauce on Hawaiian chicken? She scraped the sauce off and did her trooper best to eat the chicken and pineapple. She also made a serious dent in a mountain of wonderful peas and rice. Have I mentioned that they really know how to do peas and rice in the islands?
I ordered the tuna pie, wanting to try a local dish, and I enjoyed it. But it didn't come with a starch side. Judi shared her peas and rice with me, and in my opinion that made the tuna pie. A bite of peas and rice, a bite of tuna pie -- yum.
