Snow, snow, snow
I mean, why else would anyone visit New Hampshire in December?

Judi desperately wanted it to snow -- she wanted to catch snowflakes on her tongue. She's a child at heart. I knew that it could be weeks between snowfalls, so I wasn't optimistic, but I didn't want to discourage her.

Then on Sunday, the day after we arrived, the weather report said it might snow. It was already snowing over in Vermont. At breakfast (Paugus Diner), Judi was hopeful. But the sky was clear. "Do there have to be clouds," she asked, "for it to snow?" She is a Floridian.

Then we drove to the Mill Falls Marketplace in Meredith. As we left, flakes were coming down. Judi was so excited. She stood with her tongue out, waiting for flakes to fortuitously fall. "I caught some!" she exclaimed.

Then we drove a couple blocks to George's Diner for lunch. The snow began to fall heavily. Judi ran inside, her toungue sticking out the whole way. I videotaped the snowfall for a few minutes. When I went in, Judi said, "I caught bunches on my tongue, and up my nose and in my eyes. They're cold!" Yeah, like, frozen water maybe?

The people in the diner (all locals) complained about the snow. We told them were from Florida, and we were excited about it. The others looked at us like we were some sort of novelty item. Judi was like a little girl unwrapping a Christmas present -- all bright smiles and happy faces. I'm glad she never matured beyond six years.

On Tuesday, I went to Walmart and bought a big inflatable thing called a snow tube, so Judi could slide down a little slope at the resort. This hill was about fifteen feet high. It wasn't a bunny slope -- it was a gerbil slope. But Judi was thrilled about sledding down this gerbil slope. So I spent days... well, okay, not days but hours... okay, not hours... hey, wait a minute! It was hours! Hours inflating the darn thing. Judi and I took turns, actually. She and her bunny slippers are taking a turn in the picture above.

Then, on Thursday, we woke up and it was snowing! Hard! It was so beautiful, watching it fall against the backdrop of the trees. I strongly recommend that you click on the picture at the bottom of the page, to see the larger version.

And, better yet, it was obviously a clumpy wet snow, so we knew it would be good for snowmen!

Snowing!
Snowing!
